“Quite simply, they’ve created something that’s streets ahead in terms of creativity, our new website has the genuine “wow factor”!!!!”
Grit Pictures are a team of innovative commercial filmmakers who specialise in producing, directing, and editing high-quality promotional videos for a wide range of industries. Their client list spans everything from luxury fashion brands like Chanel to household names such as Jet2, demonstrating their ability to flex their creative approach to suit different audiences and sectors. What sets Grit Pictures apart is their unconventional, quirky perspective that shapes each project into something visually memorable and emotionally engaging.
Grit Pictures were looking for a website that captured their creative spirit. They explained that they wanted to refresh their website to align with a bold, creative, and alternative identity. They wanted the design to embody a “mad man’s scrapbook” style, reflecting their Northern roots and creative ethos. They wanted the new site to emphasise their behind-the-scenes process, bold ideas, and unique voice, blending experimental visuals with practical functionality.
They wanted their online presence to reflect the unique personality of their brand, playful, artistic, and distinctly different from the polished corporate look that many production companies default to. Their vision was a scrapbook-style website, filled with personality and energy. The brief included design elements such as torn edges on images, sticker-style effects, hand-drawn typography, mixed fonts, and secret pop-up features, all combining to create the aesthetic of a homemade notebook or scrapbook. The goal was clear: to build a site that feels handcrafted and original, much like their filmmaking process.
A key part of the brief was to remain faithful to Grit Pictures’ monochromatic brand identity. Known for their black-and-white style, they wanted to keep this strong visual identity at the forefront of the site. But more than just showcasing their striking video portfolio, the website needed to communicate something deeper than that. That Grit Pictures are not simply a group of camera operators. They are a team of storytellers, creatives, and directors, who bring thoughtful ideas and first-class production quality to every project. They wanted to highlight the polished end results of their work, and the creativity, planning, and behind-the-scenes energy that goes into every film they produce.
To bring Grit’s vision to life, we designed a single-page scrollable homepage that acts as an immersive canvas for their brand. Across the page, we introduced a series of funky illustrations, sticker-inspired graphics, torn imagery, retro-elements, and collage-style design elements that echo the playful scrapbook feel they had envisioned. These visuals guide visitors seamlessly through the site’s sections while maintaining a strong sense of personality and flow.
To avoid unnecessary complexity, we kept the site structure minimal. Instead of creating multiple pages, we developed pop-up features for their team profiles, ethos, and case studies. This way, visitors never leave the homepage experience but can still dive deeper into the details that matter. The site also features scrolling mechanics like parallax scrolling to create layers of depth and movement that help further mimic the scrapbook feel.
The result is a unique website that showcases Grit Pictures’ portfolio, that helps express their tone of voice while showcasing their creative approach and behind-the-scenes process. It reflects their originality, celebrates their creativity, and offers their audience a glimpse into the unseen world behind the camera.
Working with Kate and her team at Grinning Graphics has been an amazing experience, not just an excercise in creativity but a bit of a revelation as to who we are and what we do! They didn’t just tick the boxes of our brief — they got under the skin of our brand. They’ve singlehandedly shifted how the industry sees us and how we present ourselves in turn.
Kate’s own creative stamp is all over it — from mad eyeball graphics to clever wording and layouts that feel nothing like the usual safe agency fare. The turnaround time was quick, but it never felt rushed. They were responsive, collaborative, and bang-on with ideas at every stage.
Yes, they can take a brief and run with it, but the process with them was genuinely collaborative. We threw ideas around together, built on each other’s instincts, and the end result is something our competitors couldn’t dream of matching.
Quite simply, they’ve created something that’s streets ahead in terms of creativity, our new website has the genuine “wow factor”!!!! Thank you team!
