E-Learning and Digital Learning Platform Development

Candle Digital were evolving their focus, repositioning themselves, moving from ‘online learning’ to delivering rich, next-generation digital learning experiences.
Their goal was to help expertise-based businesses scale in smarter, more impactful ways. To reflect this shift, they had rewritten all their content across every channel, including their website.
The existing website, built entirely in-house over several years, had grown organically without templates or brand consistency guidelines. While functional, it lacked what they described as ‘design heart.’ They wanted their new site to feel crafted and intentional, even if that meant sacrificing some flexibility for a stronger, more cohesive visual identity. They also needed templated page designs for regular content like blogs, articles, and case studies.
Alongside the website redesign, Candle Digital wanted to refresh their brand assets. They were happy with their logo, typography, and colour palette, but wanted more sophisticated graphics, icons, image treatments, and infographics to elevate their aesthetic across all platforms.
We began the project with a detailed consultation and discovery session with the Candle Digital team, exploring examples of websites they admired and pinpointing the elements they wanted to prioritise.
A key takeaway from these discussions was their desire to move away from the typical tech business aesthetic. Instead, they wanted a modern, distinctive style that reflected their identity as a service- and agency-led business.
To set the creative direction, we developed three distinct homepage concepts, each exploring different graphic styles, layouts, colour combinations, icon designs, and image treatments. After reviewing and refining these concepts together, we agreed on a design direction that balanced modernity with personality. From there, we designed the full 12-page website, meeting regularly to review and refine every four pages.
Each page was purposefully crafted to avoid a templated feel, with unique layouts and multiple variations of key elements, such as testimonial boxes, section designs, image treatments, and angled dividers, to create a dynamic, engaging experience for visitors.
The site was designed full-width with minimal padding, giving it a spacious, contemporary feel. We also developed a suite of bespoke brand assets and design licks to enhance visual consistency and navigation throughout the site. These assets are now being used across other Candle Digital marketing channels, from social media to documentation.
Real-world imagery played a central role in the visual strategy, complemented by on-brand abstract visuals to replace generic stock photography. We used muted backgrounds to create breathing space and applied Candle Digital’s colour palette strategically across typography, buttons, icons, and image treatments.
We also explored varied text styling to make content more engaging and easy to read. Accessibility was considered at every stage, with designs checked for WCAG compliance to ensure colours, text, and graphics met industry standards.
Once the website design was finalised, we delivered a complete set of wireframes and assets, enabling the Candle Digital team to confidently build their site and roll out their refreshed brand identity across all marketing materials.
